Do you have an above average sales funnel?

A sales funnel is the process for potential clients or customers to get to know your business and eventually (hopefully) to buy from you.

You have put your sales funnel together and are very proud of it, but is it bringing in the leads? Do you have enough leads in your funnel to turn them into customers or clients?

A sales funnel is the process for potential clients or customers to get to know your business and eventually (hopefully) to buy from you.

You have put your sales funnel together and are very proud of it, but is it bringing in the leads? Do you have enough leads in your funnel to turn them into customers or clients?

So lets talk benchmarks.  We all need to have something to aim for when it comes to our sales funnel.  How many people will opt-in, how many will watch our webinar… and so on.

Let’s get down to ‘brass tacks’ (I make no apologies in that I geek out at these numbers!)

Below are the basic numbers and conversions to benchmark your funnel - take note!

  1. At least 20% of people who see your landing page should opt-in
  2. If you have a tripwire/entry offer on your thank you page then 1-5% should be buying it.
  3. If you have an order bump then 30-40% should be converting.
  4. If you have an upsell then 5-10% of those that see it should buy.

Further stats

20-30% should be opening your emails

If you are running a webinar then you would hope that 30% who registered stick around to watch it.

So let’s run the numbers

2000 view your landing page

400 opt-in

4-20 people buy your tripwire/entry offer

1-6 (assuming 30%) buy your order bump

1 buys your upsell/one-time-offer

So you can see how much traffic you need to send to your funnel to get it to start giving you some good numbers.  If you have a longer sales funnel with tripwire, order bump and upsell (as above) then if you look at the stats then you can see how it is doing at each step and if there are any areas for improvement – for example your upsell doesn’t really fit with your tripwire or maybe it’s too expensive.

Obviously if you are doing a short lead gen funnel then all you are looking at are landing page conversions – if you are running Facebook ads then checking the click-through-rate (the number of people who clicked through to your page) is equally important.  For cold audiences (i.e. people who have never heard of you) you ideally need to be above 1%.

There are great platforms out there that can help you with all of this.  Clickfunnels, enables you to see stats easily for each step in your funnel.  How many people visited, purchased etc.  Another option is Kartra which is growing in popularity as it is an all-in-one marketing solution.  Equally Leadpages is good for simple opt-ins.
